McCahren Eligible For Parole In About 6 Years

McCahren sentenced to 15 years for killing classmate

Court documents show a Pierre teenager convicted of killing a classmate and threatening another will be eligible for parole in almost six years.

18-year-old Braiden McCahren’s eligibility for parole was recalculated by Sixth Circuit Judge John Brown this week.

Brown sentenced McCahren to 15 years last month after he was found guilty of second-degree murder for the death of 16-year-old Dalton Williams.
Brown originally indicated McCahren would have to serve at least 10 years. But because he committed the crime when he was a juvenile, McCahren will be eligible after serving 50 percent of his sentence.

Brown this week told the prosecuting and defense attorneys he “erroneously believed” McCahren would have to serve a longer sentence.
McCahren was given credit for serving over 450 days while awaiting trial.
