The USD men are a contender to win the Summit League thanks to their surprising road success.

Last night the Coyotes won their sixth road game of the season at Western Illinois 68-58. That’s the sixth best road win total in the NCAA.

7 of their next 10 will be back home in Vermillion, but for now head coach Craig Smith thinks the road heavy schedule helped toughen them up.

“You know what, five of our first seven in league are on the road. But you know what? We’ve been on the road so much that the road is like home for us. What have we had, six games at home all year? So we’ve done a really good job of just kind of hanging around. We’re a scrappy group, we’ve done a really good job of just kind of hanging around, hanging around, hanging around and then finding a way to win down the stretch.” Smith says.

The Coyotes wrap up the first half of Summit League play tomorrow at noon at IUPUI.
