Power Outage Leaves Thousands In The Dark

Power restored after about an hour

Nearly 8,500 Xcel Energy customers in Sioux Falls were without power over the lunch hour Friday.

Officials with the company say power went out just before noon from 18th Street to Interstate 229 and Kiwanis to Cliff Avenue. The outage caused some traffic delays and
seven schools and several businesses were left in the dark.

Xcel officials say it was caused by a failed jumper at one of their sub-stations near Augustana College. A jumper is simply an extension of a wire that connects to another wire. Power was restored about an hour later just before 1 p.m.
