Sioux Falls School Board Approves New Calendar Start Date

School district to start after Labor Day

The Sioux Falls public school calendar has been set for next school year.

52 percent of voters on Tuesday decided to push the start date to after Labor Day.

Thursday night, the Sioux Falls School Board held a special meeting for the new calendar, which was approved with a 4-1 vote.

For the next three years, Sioux Falls schools will start on September 8 and end on June 2.

School Board President Kent Alberty said, “I will be very happy to live with the voters’ wishes and I will continue in my role as a member of the school board to make sure every child in the Sioux Falls public schools gets the best education possible.”

The school board also approved a three-year contract with the district’s new superintendent, Dr. Brian Maher.

Maher will get an annual salary of $220,000 plus benefits.
