Heavy Rains To Move In Overnight, Flash Flooding Possible
The Sioux Empire is under a Flash Flood Watch starting Wednesday at 10pm and lasting through Thursday evening. A strong spring storm will move in overnight and bring some places heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding through the day on Thursday. That Flash Flood Watch has been issued for parts of southeast South Dakota, northwest Iowa, and southwestern Minnesota.
Thunderstorms already have developed in central Nebraska (pictured below) this afternoon and are expected to move northeast through the evening hours. Storms will move in around or after midnight for those in the Tri-State area bringing in some heavy rains during the early morning hours on Thursday.
As the storms continue to train over the same areas of the Sioux Empire we will see high totals begin to pile up. This is where the risk for the flooding will be strongest, especially in areas that have seen rain from the weekend. Below is the output from our in-house model on potential rainfall through the early parts of Friday morning.
