Avera has supported Feeding South Dakota for 10 years, and on Monday, they announced that they will donate $75,000 to the cause.

This isn’t the first time Avera has partnered with the program. Avera has helped expand operations in Pierre and in Sioux Falls in the past.

Funds will help support the mobile food pantry. It will roll into communities like Huron, Miller and Reliance to serve food to those in need.

Mike Gassen, Executive Director of Feeding South Dakota, says this partnership will be different than in past years.

“They’re stepping up to the plate and they’re saying we’re going to provide $25,000 a year for three years to support one of your newest programs, and that’s our mobile food pantry program. I think the other part of it is, it’s the work that Avera does in rural South Dakota, much like what we’re trying to do,” Gassen said.

Gassen says that one out of every eight people in South Dakota is food insecure.
