For over six decades fans have flocked the Huset’s Speedway. But after Sun. night’s races, Huset’s Speedway will become Badlands Motor Speedway.
“We are bringing Badlands Motor Speedway to the race fans of the Midwest, to Brandon and to Sioux Falls South Dakota,” says new owner, Chuck Brennan.
Huset’s Speedway is a staple for the racing community, and Brennan is aware of the legacy.
For 62 years people from across the country have experienced the roar and excitement of sprint cars and street stocks.
A new name, a new owner and the same great races, but still there will be some changes.
“Life goes on, and changes are good,” Doug Wolfgang is one of few professional racecar drivers to come out of South Dakota.
“If it changes for the better, it’s great. If it changes for the worst, it is still a change.”
Although, Wolfgang doesn’t see that happening thanks in part to how dynamic Brennan has been throughout this transition.
The changes to the track were controversial. Rumors had spread that fans would have to pay for parking. It circulated the web and word of mouth. While false, Brennan says to expect other changes.
“By the end of next year we are going to complete our grandstand refurbishing, our badlands tower suite, and the north side new restrooms and concession stands.”
The tradition of Huset’s lives on.
“So, the history is here, we are just going to spiff it up a little bit.”
The amount of money racers could win has increased as well. Wolfgang says that alone is great for drivers to make decent money from racing.
The speedway will also house concerts all summer long. Click here for the website and all the planned changes.
