Gallery Exhibit to Feature Sculptures and Community Collaborations by Bridget Beck ’00
October 16th - November 14th
Augustana University – Eide/Dalrymple Gallery
The Eide/Dalrymple Gallery will present de la Mancha: Laster Out First: Sculptures and Community Collaborations by Bridget Beck ’00, a new gallery exhibition of drawings, large-scale sculptures and collaborations, from Friday, Oct. 16 – Saturday, Nov. 14. A homecoming reception is set for Friday, Oct. 16, with artist’s talks at 12 p.m. and 7.30 p.m.
The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
For Beck, the exhibition’s title “de la Mancha: Laster Out First” means that imagination outlasts all obstacles. The word laster is a play on “last” and also “outcast.” This play on words embodies her belief that no one should be forgotten. As she states, “art should be taken out into the community for everyone, no matter who you are.” Beck has been realizing this belief for nearly 15 years as a professional artist and community collaborator.
The exhibition will be composed of drawings and recent sculptures that the artist will deliver by truck from Long Beach, California. Additionally, she will create four collaborative sculptures, two of which will be created through workshops with Sioux Falls Edison Middle School students and Brandon Valley High School students.
