Celebrating Christmas With Veterans

Veterans at the V.A. Medical Center had some Christmas cheer delivered Friday.

For more than 20 years, volunteers and families visit those who have served. Kids gave out hand-made cards made from various schools in the area.

For some families, this is their first year coming out. For others it’s a time-honored tradition.

Event organizers say it’s important this holiday not to forget the men and women who served the country.

“Nobody wants to be in the hospital at Christmas time. So, we’ve been coming out here for many years. We bring a gift to try to get the vets something to smile about, and bring some cheer to the employees working on Christmas. We appreciate them also,” said John Huntington.

Vets were treated to socks, pens, key chains calendars and sweets.

Huntington reminds folks the V.A. Hospital is always looking for volunteers.
