Mid-March Winter Storm Totals

Heavy Snow Brought Significant Snow to Parts of the Sioux Empire

Wow. Wednesday afternoon and overnight into early Thursday brought heavy snow across parts of the Sioux Empire. Some places have seen two inches of snow in one hour and thunder was even been heard as two different convective snow bands set up over southeastern South Dakota, northeast Nebraska, northwest Iowa, and southwest Minnesota. These bands brought so much snow that parts of I-29 were close early on Thursday morning.

Wednesday’s snowfall of 4.9″ at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport brought the seasonal total for Sioux Falls up to 62.1″, which puts us solidly into the top 10 of snowiest seasons on record!

Below is a look at the snow totals that we have received so far from the National Weather Service. If you want to send us a snow report, make sure to send it to us via Facebook and on Twitter. Make sure that you provide a picture so we can pass it along to the National Weather Service! Be safe out there!
