Frenzied Finish Pushes Sioux Falls Past Bemidji State

USF In First Place In NSIC After 37-36 Win

The Sioux Falls Cougars are alone atop the NSIC Football standings.

It took everything they had to get there after a dramatic 37-36 win over Bemidji State on Saturday night in Sioux Falls.

USF (4-0) trailed Bemidji (3-1) 20-3 at half before mounting a furious third quarter rally.  Max Mickey opened the period with a 75 yard touchdown run, Luke Papilion threw three touchdowns to Josh Angulo and ran for another score, as USF scored 34 points to take a 37-30 lead after 3.

However, with just 17 seconds left in the game, Beaver quarterback Jordan Hein rushed in for a one yard touchdown to make it 37-36.  BSU elected to go for the win but Juwaan Richard was stopped short of the goal line.

Papilion went 23-41 for 229 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.  He also ran for 163 yards and that one score.  Mickey ran 14 times for 207 yards and a score.

USF visits crosstown rival Augustana next Saturday at 1.
