SD Residents Asked To Check Properties For Missing MN Woman’s Body

Police in North Dakota and Minnesota say they need some South Dakota residents to check out barns and buildings on their properties to help find the body of a missing woman.

According to the Ramsey County, MN Sheriff’s Office, 45-year-old Michelle Newell of Vadnais Heights, MN, was last seen on August 29.  A Saint Paul, MN, man, identified as Timothy Barr, has been charged with two counts of 2nd Degree Murder Without Intent regarding Newell.

Police say Barr had contact with law enforcement in Cass County, North Dakota on August 31 before the missing person report was filed.  According to investigators, Barr said he left Newell’s remains in South Dakota in an abandoned barn or farm building, covered with hay.  Barr was seen in Cass County on August 30 & 31.  The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office says authorities believe Barr headed south through eastern North Dakota & South Dakota before returning to the Twin Cities area.

Police are asking those who live in areas east of cities like Jamestown, ND and Aberdeen, SD to check their buildings and barns for anything suspicious.  They’ve provided a map outlining the search area where Newell’s body could be.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office at 651-266-7320.
