After Hurricane Matthew hit the U.S., thousands of people have been deployed to respond to the disaster, with 17 of them from South Dakota.

According to the American Red Cross, people from various communities in South Dakota are in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina to help with relief efforts.

The American Red Cross says that over 7,000 people spent Sunday night in a Red Cross or shelter in the southeast part of the nation to help those affected by Hurricane Matthew. Over 133 vehicles, 97 trailers and three kitchens have brought supplies and food to help communities affected clean up and stay nourished.
