Mitchell Police Arrest Two People Following String Of Break-Ins
Two people have been arrested following a string of storage unit and vehicle break-ins, as well as using stolen credit cards in Mitchell.
According to Lt. Don Everson with the Mitchell Police Department, 24-year-old Amber Lynn Lautt and 34-year-old Jesse Lee Pence were arrested after authorities executed a search warrant at a hotel room at 1700 S. Burr St. in Mitchell Tuesday.
During the search of the hotel room and Lautt’s vehicle, authorities found several items believed to be stolen, a bolt cutter, three cut padlocks, trace amounts of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Everson says that Pence also used a credit card stolen from a vehicle to make purchases in Mitchell on Sept. 18. He says that the two are believed to have sold some of the property the stole as well.
Lautt has been charged with three counts of aiding and abetting criminal entry of a motor vehicle, aiding and abetting third-degree burglary, possession of stolen property valued at less than $400, possession of a controlled substance and possession of burglary tools. She faces up to 45 years in prison and $30,000 in fines if convicted.
Pence has been charged with three counts of criminal entry of a motor vehicle, three counts of identity theft, and third-degree burglary. He faces up to 14 years in prison and $28, 000 in fines if convicted.
The investigation is still ongoing.
