New Details In Sanford Surgeon Human Trafficking Case Emerge
New details in a human trafficking case involving a Sanford surgeon have emerged.
Jonathan David Cohen, 36, appeared in court at the Minnehaha County Courthouse Thursday for a bond hearing after being charged with human trafficking and sexually exploiting a 16-year-old Georgia girl.
In court, the state argued that Cohen has had a history of “predatory behavior” and has had similar contact with other juveniles including a teenage boy from Iowa. They say that child pornography and federal charges could come Cohen’s way if they can confirm the ages of the victims.
The defense argued that the girl told Cohen that she had no ID and that she would need her age entered as 16-years-old in order to obtain plane tickets to fly from Georgia to visit Cohen in Sioux Falls.
Cohen had his bond reduced from $1 million to $500,000. Other conditions of his bond include no internet usage, GPS tracking, staying inside the Sioux Falls city limits and no contact with anyone under the age of 18.
The surgeon currently has his medical license under investigation and has voluntarily refrained from practicing.
