Coyotes Kicker Nailed Four Field Goals In Win At Indiana State
South Dakota senior kicker Miles Bergner has been named the STATS FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week for the period ended Oct. 15 as announced Monday. The accolade comes in addition to the Missouri Valley Football Conference honor announced yesterday.
Bergner came in clutch for the Coyotes, scoring a pair of overtime field goals in the 33-30 double-overtime victory at Indiana State on Saturday. In the first six games of the season, Bergner has made four overtime field goals for South Dakota.
Bergner tallied four field goals during Saturday’s win. His 49-yarder in the first quarter made him South Dakota’s all-time leading scorer. He also connected from 38 yards out in the third quarter. Bergner’s initial overtime kick tied the game by forcing a second overtime period, while his fourth field goal was the game-winner. Bergner stands atop the Coyote record book with 247 points.
In addition, Bergner kicked three extra points, had five touchbacks on six kickoffs and averaged 42.8 yards on nine punts, with two going for more than 50 yards and two pinning Indiana State inside its 20.
Bergner ranks second nationally this season with 1.67 field goals per game and with an average 45.8 yards per punt. His field goal percentage of .909 (10-of-11) ranks fifth in the nation.
