History has a funny way of repeating itself at Minneota/Lincoln High School.

“No one really talks about the old days until this year when we actually have a chance to duplicate it.” Minneota Junior Isaac Hennen says.

Isaac Hennen’s last name is no stranger to prep football fans in Minnesota. His father Wayne and uncle Eric were key cogs in two of the Vikings three consecutive state titles from 1986 to 88.

“My dad’s great about it. He doesn’t pressure me at all. He wants me to do my best and he gives me advice and stuff.” Isaac says.

Three decades late Isaac and his older brother Garrett, along with cousins Thomas and Jacob have repeated their father’s feet, helping the Vikings win consecutive state titles.

“That group of kids has just been driven. That family’s been driven. We saw it with Garrett for three years. Isaac stepped in last year as a sophomore and started showing some great things for us.” Minneota Head Football Coach Chad Johnston says.

Garrett graduated last year, and junior Isaac is the new workhorse, distinguishing himself from his brother and dad….

“I know I have to play my way. Garrett had his own, unique style. If there’s an opening and there’s a person off to the right I’m not going to try to run off to the right and nail the person. I’m going to try to hit the hole where as Garrett would have probably tried to just run someone over on the way.” Isaac says.

“We’re showing his versatility at wing back a little bit. Get him out in a receiver in the slot spot. We’re trying to utilize him in a lot of different ways. I’m sure there’s a little bit of that for bragging rights that pushes him.” Johnston says.

While helping the Vikings tread familiar ground-a 7-0 start and chance for a third straight State Title.

“I guess it really gives ua chip on our shoulder to try and get it done.” Hennen says.
