Upgrade Your Phone, Help Fight Breast Cancer
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month; a month to raise awareness about a cancer that will affect 1 in 8 women and 1 in a thousand men in the United States. And one company in the Sioux Empire and they partner is holding an event this month… raising money to help fight breast cancer. An effort that starts with your phone.
Whether it’s the iPhone 7 or Google’s latest phone, the Pixel… everybody wants the newest phone as soon as they can. Which is why friends for 20 years, Wireless World and Sanford Health, came up with a unique idea.
“If you come to Wireless World this month, we are matching your donation of your trade-in,” explained co-owner of Wireless World Vince Lubben.
It seems like a good deal, if you want to upgrade from an iPhone 6 to a 7, not only will you save money when you get the latest phone but there’s more, explains Lubben.
“You as our customer, our guest, will get $240 off your purchase but then wireless world will also take another $240 and donate it to Edith Sanford.”
100 matched and 100% donated, which the Edith Sanford Breast Center says is a heartwarming gesture… especially to those in the fight against the disease. And experts say roughly twelve percent of US women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.
“To have those dollars come in means a lot to our foundation; every single dollar counts, every single dollar helps our researchers and our people that are doing patient care advance what we’re doing and move forward,” explained Helen Henkin, Corporate Development at the Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Foundation. “To hopefully eradicate this disease at some point.”
While Henkin suggests women, as well as men, do regular check ups and schedule mammograms to catch the cancer early, she, along with Lubben know that sometimes the inevitable happens. Which is why they are doing this event and it hits close to home for Lubben himself.
“Not only do they have the best technology and the best medicine, but their care is truly genuine and I got to experience that first hand with my mom going through the process,” Vince Lubben, co-owner of Wireless World said.
“And is she doing?”
“If you don’t mind commenting, she’s doing better now?”
“My mom’s great… doing awesome.”
The trade in event runs through the rest of October at area Verizon Stores like the one located on 41st and Kiwanis and East 10th Street. Lubben says that this event isn’t just limited to Sioux Falls, all area Wireless World stores are offering the trade in deal.
In May of this year, Sanford and Wireless World run a similar event and raised around $8,000. Helen Henkin says that if you are happy with your phone but wish to make a donation, you can do so by clicking here.
