NAMI Presents Dancing with the Sioux Falls Stars
The hit celebrity dance show “Dancing with the Stars” is coming to Sioux Falls, but a little bit different.
It’s “Dancing with the Sioux Falls Stars,” and it’s a major fundraiser for NAMI, which provides resources for families and people living with mental illnesses.
Phyllis Arends, the executive director of NAMI, says last year’s event was a dream come true for her. She says every dollar earned from the event goes into support and education programs, and help spreading the word that mental illnesses are no one’s fault and that there are resources available. She says she also loved watching each group perform.
Thomas Nguyen, from LiRa Dance Company, is Sarah Blakely’s partner in the competition. He only started dancing when he was 17 years old, but by the time he was 22 he became a world champion hip hip dancer. He says he’s enjoyed participating, and enjoys the challenge of conveying emotion through dance. Thomas and Sarah will be performing a contemporary piece to “How Will I Know” by Sam Smith.
Dancing with the Sioux Falls Stars is Saturday, November 5 at The District. Currently, all general admission tickets have sold out! VIP tickets remain for $75. For more information, visit DancingwiththeSiouxFallsStars.com.
