Man Arrested After Biting Police Officer At The District

John Hogan, 25, From Brookings Is Accused Of Fighting Sioux Falls Police

A Brookings man has been arrested after biting a police officer at The District Tuesday night.

According to Sgt. Paul Creviston, 25-year-old John Hogan III, was interfering with officers giving medical attention to a woman. During an attempt to separate Hogan from the authorities, Hogan began to punch the officers.

He was then taken to the ground, and began to kick officers and tried to bite them. He bit a male officer on the upper thigh, breaking the skin.

Hogan has been charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement, two counts of simple assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest and obstruction of law enforcement.

“Unfortunately it [bites] happens more than we like to admit,” Creviston says. “It’s not your typical response when dealing with a combative subject like that.”

The officer was sent to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.
