Fire Station’s “Little Free Library” Opens

A Sioux Falls second grade class had the chance to read books at a library that is smaller than most Thursday.

The “little free library”, located at Fire Station No. 3 on South Minnesota Avenue has officially opened.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue built the box and created the space. Siouxland Libraries then provided the books for visitors.

The firefighters created the library after one group had the idea, but were unable to do it.

“It expands our mission, obviously our mission is to educate and what better way to educate than to have books available for people and children to utilize so we were happy to accommodate that,” says Jeff Helm, fire division chief for Sioux Falls Fire Rescue.

Children and families can stop by the “little free library” and pick up books to take home, or can read them in the back yard of the fire station.
