Augustana Wins 5th Straight Central Region Title

Viking Women Finish 8th

The Augustana men’s cross country would not be denied a fifth consecutive Central Region Championship on their home course of Yankton Trail Park on Saturday. The Vikings held off Missouri Southern to keep the Central Region title in Sioux Falls.

The Augustana men finished with 65 points inching passed Missouri Southern who finished with 68 points. Northwest Missouri State and MSU Moorhead rounded out the top-four. Those four team qualified for the NCAA Championships in St. Leo, Fla. on Nov. 19.

Senior Glen Ellingson and Keegan Carda finished third and fourth, respectively. Ellingson ran the 10k course in 31:04.46 and Carda ran the course in 31:10.17.

Nathan Hauge (11th), Jesus Urtusuastegui (14th) and Nathan Schroeder (33rd) rounded out the team scoring for the Vikings. Ellingson, Carda, Hauge, and Urtusuastegui earned All-Central Region honors by placing in the top-25 of individual placers.

The Augustana women’s team finished eighth as a team. U-Mary, Minnesota Duluth, Southwest Baptist and Fort Hays State finished as the top-four teams and will advance to the NCAA Championships.

Mackenzie Kelly, Annie Kruse and Alana Sesow each earned All-Central Region honors. Kelly was the top finisher for the Vikings finishing in ninth place with a time of 21:05.86. Kruse finished in 22nd and Sesow placed 25th.

The Augustana men will have two weeks to prepared for the NCAA Championship in St. Leo, Fla. The meet will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19.
