Stampede Blanked By Fargo
McMahn's hat trick too much for Herd
A rough first period led the way to a sluggish night for the Sioux Falls Stampede who were blanked by the Fargo Force, 6-0, before 4,529 at the PREMIER Center. It’s the first time this year the Stampede did not score at least one goal in a game. The Herd allowed three goals in the first, one in the second and two in the third and were unable to get any of their 30 shots past Matt Murray and fell to 5-8-1 on the year. Mikhali Berdin stopped 33 shots in goal for the Herd who were unable to carry over momentum from their 5-4 overtime victory over Lincoln last Saturday.
The first period did not go as planned for the Herd as Fargo rattled off three goals to take a 3-0 advantage. The first goal came just 1:46 into the game when Shane McMahn picked off a Stampede clearing attempt inside the right circle and wristed a shot past the glove side of Stampede goaltender Mikhail Berdin to give the Force a 1-0 lead. It remained that way throughout of the period, but scored two late. McMahn struck again, this time at 17:48 when he jammed in a loose rebound. Fargo added another goal with just 1:03 remaining in the period when Bradley Johnson wristed a shot that was stopped by Berdin, but Odeen Tufto snuck in a knocked home the rebound for his first of the year to give the Force a 3-0 lead after one. Fargo outshot the Herd 21-10 in the period.
The Stampede played better in the second, but things didn’t get any better as they fell behind 4-0 at 8:14 of the second. McMahn tallied the hat trick when he took the puck outside the left circle, cut back into the slot and backhanded a shot perfectly into the upper right hand corner of the net to extend the Force’s lead to four goals. The Stampede had five power play opportunities, including a 5-on-3 advantage, but couldn’t get a bounce and the puck past Matt Murray and Fargo took a 4-0 lead into the locker room. Sioux Falls outshot the Force 14-7 in the period.
Fargo added to their lead in the third scoring two more goals. Martin Sunberg deflected a shot from Odeen Tufto into the back of the net at 4:08 of the third to extend their lead to 5-0. The Force put the game away for good at 13:53 when Jack Adams snuck away on a breakaway and beat Berdin to make it a 6-0 game.
Fargo outshot the Herd 11-6 in the period and 39-30 in the game while going 0-for-7 while the Stampede also finished the night 0-for-7.
