Neugebauer Leads Mitchell To First Football Title

Mitchell wins first state football title

The Mitchell Kernels hadn’t been to the Dome since 1993 and had not won a state title in 2 tries before Friday night. Spencer Neugebauer made sure that changed when he carried the ball 24 times for 236 yards and 3 scores as the Kernels broke away from a 13-6 half-time lead to beat Harrisburg 41-6 in the 11-AA championship game.

QB Keil Nelson threw a 28 yard TD to Cody Reichelt and rushed for 124 yards on 4 carries and another score. Michael Curry blocked a punt and pounced on it in the end zone for Harrisburg’s scores. The Tiger finished the season 9-3 and Mitchell ran off 11 straight wins after losing to Harrisburg in the season opener.
