Authorities Give Update On Near-Drowning In Sioux Falls

Children pull drowning boy out of apartment pool

Two children are hospitalized, one in critical condition, after nearly drowning in a pool at the Timberland Village Apartments in Sioux Falls on Friday evening.

According to Public Information Officer Sam Clemens, two boys, 9-year-old and a 12-year-old were in the deep end of the pool, at approximately 9-feet deep when their 13-year-old sister saw them at the bottom of the pool.

A group of children swimming with them managed to get the 9-year-old out of the pool and began giving him CPR, regaining consciousness and breathing on his own. Clemens says that the 12-year-old was too heavy for the children to get out.

An office worker near the pool heard the commotion and was able to get out the 12-year-old. They were able to get a pulse from the boy.

Clemens says that the 12-year-old is still in critical condition. He says that the residents who live at the apartment complex have keys to the pool. The children were not supervised during the incident.
