Local Chef Lands National Cooking Show
'Chef Jamie's Cooking With Soul' premieres January 15
From ‘The Chew’ to ‘Good Eats’ and ‘Chopped’, there are a lot of cooking shows on TV today.
But none of those are produced or filmed here in Sioux Falls.
That’s about to change, as one local HyVee chef is taking a stab at hosting a national cooking television show.
HyVee is retail Chef Jaime’s second home.
It’s where he teaches cooking classes and comes up with new and fresh recipes, like a hot chocolate desert flat bead pizza.
“I get to create something delicious, something exciting but also something you can make at home in about 15 to 20 minutes,” explains Chef Jaime. “I like to call it dinner in a pinch.”
But thanks to a series of Facebook live videos, the retail chef will soon be wearing a new titile on his apron – cooking TV host.
“It started out as a simple segment right here from our HyVee Minnesota Avenue store and we had a couple hundred people check it out the first time,” says Chef Jamie. “Within three days, the traffic was up to 4,000 and the response was overwhelming.”
The show is called ‘Chef Jamie’s Cooking With Soul’.
It will air on 40 television markets nation-wide featuring the best of the Midwest, including cooking, travel and entertainment.
Chef Jamie says he’s wanted to host a cooking show for a long time.
“Only about 25 years now,” laughs Chef Jamie.
One that showcases what South Dakota has to offer.
“We’re going to always feature South Dakota made products like Old West Barbeque Sauce,” he says. “We’re going to put local on the map nationally.”
He’s even filming here in Sioux Falls.
“Our first local restaurant is Ode, we’re going to be visiting our friends at Crawford’s, Parker’s Crave.”
Local politicians and artists will also make an appearance.
Not to mention, some big names like Michael Orland, the former musical director of American Idol, and Greg White from the Food Network.
From local chef to TV personality, Chef Jamie says he’s ready to give his home a voice.
“It’s taking that hospitality from the Midwest, from Sioux Falls, from the region and showing it and sharing it with America,” he says.
‘Chef Jamie’s Cooking With Soul’ premiers on January 15th.
Chef Jamie is hosting a red carpet event at the Icon Lounge that night.
The first season will have a total of 16, one hour long, episodes.
