Stampede Get Consecutive Wins For First Time Since September

Herd Beat Team USA 6-1

Colin Swoyer scored twice and Jeremy Swayman stopped 31 of 32 shots in goal as the Stampede rolled over Team USA 6-1 before 4,007 fans Sunday night at the PREMIER Center. Nolan Walker added a goal and an assist while AJ Viella added a goal and an assist for the Stampede who won for the second straight game and improved to 7-10-1 on the season and 5-5-0 on home ice. It marks just the second time this season the Herd have won consecutive games.

The Stampede were hoping to get off to a fast start and carry that momentum over from Friday and they did just that 6:26 into the contest. Lean Bergmann sent a pass up the left wing wall to Christoffer Karlsen who weaved through the USA defense and cut into the slot before sending a perfect pass into the left circle for Jack Doremus who slapped the puck into the back of the net to give the Herd a 1-0 lead. Just 14 seconds later the Herd were on the power play and converted when AJ Villellla blasted a shot from the right point past USA goaltender Keegan Karki to make it 2-0. The Herd would take that lead into the locker room, outshooting Team USA 11-3.

The Herd picked up right where they left off to start the second period when Nolan Walker scored just 53 second in. Jaxon Nelson brought the puck into the USA zone and dropped it inside the right circle where Nolan Walker blasted a shot from the dot and into the back of the net to give the Herd a 3-0 edge. Sioux Falls made it 4-0 at 9:16 when Colin Swoyer’s blast from the right point went through traffic and past Karki for a power play goal and Swoyer’s second of the year. The Herd weren’t done just yet, they continued to press and extended their lead to 5-0 at 14:17 when Josh Passolt’s shot was stopped, but Max Johnson dove in and knocked home a loose rebound to give the Herd a five goal lead. Team USA outshot the Herd 18-17 in the period.

The Stampede put the game away for good at three minutes into the third period when Swoyer tallied his second goal of the game and the Herd’s third on the power play. Johnson sent a pass to the right point who then blasted a shot through traffic and past the glove side of Karki to give the Stampede a 6-0 lead. Team USA would score a late goal to end Swayman’s shutout bid, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Herd rolled to a 6-1 victory,

Team USA outshot the Herd 11-9 in the third, but the Stampede outshot the red, white and blue 37-32 in the game. Sioux Falls finished 3-for-7 on the power play while stopping all four of Team USA’s scoring chances.

Sioux Falls returns to action this weekend with a home-and-home with the Fargo Force. Friday’s game is in Fargo before the Herd return home on Saturday Stomp and Tip-Toe’s birthday bash, presented by Dental Solutions. The first 2,000 fans will receive a free birthday hat and three lucky people will have a chance to participate in a cake smash with a chance to take home a Stampede team autographed jersey.
