Augustana Pins Dakota Wesleyan At S.D. Showcase
56-0 Win Part Of 2-1 Day For Vikings
The Augustana wrestling team had its first dual matches of the season at the South Dakota Showcase at the Sanford Pentagon on Sunday. The Vikings defeated Dakota Wesleyan and Northern State before dropping their final dual of the afternoon against South Dakota State.
The Vikings got strong performances from senior Michael Lowman and junior Aero Amo who each went undefeated on the day. Lowman wrestling at 285 went 2-0 and earned the major decision in the last match against Northern State to complete the comeback and give the Vikings the dual win over the Wolves, 19-18. Lowman improved to 9-3 on the season.
Amo went 3-0 on the day at 184. Amo won his first match by forfeit and concluded the day with two decisions over wrestlers from Northern State and South Dakota State. Amo moved to 10-3 on the season.
Augustana 56, Dakota Wesleyan 0
Augustana won its first dual of the season in convincing fashion. Augustana’s 56-0 victory over Dakota Wesleyan is their largest dual victory in exactly two years as the Vikings toppled the Tigers 56-0 on Dec. 4, 2014 in Mitchell, S.D.
Deven Donais (141) wrestled the first match of the day and started a string of pins for the Vikings. Jacob Anderson (149), Bailey Neises (157), Hunter Haman (165) and Bruce Lemon Jr. (174) each followed Donais with pins.
Clayton Wahlstrom (197) won by tech fall over his opponent and Lane Lettau (285) won by an 8-1 decision to conclude the match.
Javier Vieyra (125), Morgan Engbrecht (133) and Aero Amo (184) each earned victories by forfeit.

The Vikings used a comeback in the heavier weight classes to take down the Wolves of Northern State. Amo (184) end a string of four straight NSU wins with a 9-3 victory over David Murphy. Ben Goodwin(197) earned a victory by forfeit to close the gap to 18-15.
In the final match, Lowman (285) won by major decision (11-3) to complete the comeback for Augustana giving them a 19-18 win.
Engbrecht (133) and Jordan (141) each earned victories by decision for the Vikings.

Augustana dropped its last dual of the day to a Division I top-25 team in South Dakota State. Only Amo (184) and Lowman (285) mustered victories for the Vikings. Amo won by an 11-5 decision over Martina Mueller and Lowman defeated Alex Macki by a 2-0 decision.
