New Details In Sioux Falls Double Homicide

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – There is new information on a double homicide case out of Sioux Falls that left a 48-year-old woman and 7-year-old boy dead. A search warrant affidavit provides gruesome details of what up led up to their deaths and the arrest of the woman’s son.

Heath Otto, 24, has been indicted on two counts of 1st degree murder charges after police say he murdered his mother and nephew inside her home on the afternoon of November 20th.

According to the search warrant affidavit, the Minnnehaha County Sheriff’s Office was called to the trailer on the 6200 block of North Cliff Avenue after an alarm was activated. When a sergeant responded to the scene, the documents say Otto was on the deck of the home with blood on his arm.

When the sergeant asked if anyone needed medical attention, Otto responded ‘not anymore.’

According to the affidavit, the sergeant found the woman and child dead in the master bedroom, cold to the touch.

Otto was interviewed and arrested that same day. Documents say that between 10:30 and 11:30 that morning, he used a phone cord in an attempt to strangle the victims, but couldn’t get them to stop breathing so he used a knife to cut their necks.

The affidavit does not point to a possible motive in the case.
