Alex Shattuck Makes Road Trip to Win at Home

Prairie Green might as well be Alex Shattuck’s home course since he grew up a few minutes away.

“It’s always a good feeling to come home regardless of how long ago it’s been since you’ve been back.” Alex says.

These days it takes Alex a long time to come back from his current home, William & Mary College in Virginia, more than 1200 miles away.

“I went to middle school and junior high at O’Gorman. And then I went down south to get some training.” The William & Mary Junior says.

Going to prep school in Florida cost Shattuck the chance to play with, or against, many of his childhood friends.

“I didn’t have the opportunity to play regular high school golf. That was something that was definitely kind of hard to miss but I thought it was worth it in the end and I think I’m better for it.” Shattuck says.

This week’s Match Play Championship makes it hard to argue with his decision.

After posting the low qualifying score, Shattuck went wire to wire as the top seed to win the championship in his fourth try.

“Just got into a rhythm and was hitting shots where I wanted them. And golf’s easy when you do that.” Shattuck says.

And there’s no better way for Alex to leave for his senior year of college….

“It’s been a long time since I was able to get a win. You know, decent and good finishes come every now and again but it feels really good to finally get a win again.” Alex says.

…Than by taking a piece of home back with him!
