Extreme Fundraiser For Big Brothers Big Sisters Takes Donors To New Heights

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- An extreme fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sioux Empire is taking donors to new heights.

Over the Edge is partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sioux Empire to allow participants to rappel down the six-story Raven Building in the heart of downtown Sioux Falls. Participants must raise $1,000 or more to take part, with proceeds going toward their program to mentor local children. The event will be on Saturday, July 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This is the first year Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sioux Empire has participated in Over the Edge, but events like this have been selling out across the country.

People who want to take part can register here and will get instructions on how to create a fundraising page to help raise the $1,000 needed to rappel. The page can be shared with friends, family and coworkers.

An additional component to Over the Edge is called “Toss the Boss.” Coworkers can work together to raise $1,000 to make their boss rappel down the Raven Building. If the boss doesn’t want to rappel, then they have to raise an additional $1,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sioux Empire Jami Gates says this fundraiser is critical to keep their programs running. Gates says they also need volunteers to help run the Over the Edge event on July 29. To donate your time, click here.

The event is open to spectators and will also feature food trucks throughout the day.

Gates says the Big Brothers Big Sisters program always has a waiting list of kids who need mentors. If you’d like to make a difference in a child’s life and serve as a mentor, click here. The time requirement is a few hours, a couple times a month.
