“The Reality Check”; Mayor Huether Presents Lean 2018 Budget
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether gave his last budget address this afternoon, calling it one of the leaner budgets in the city’s history.
The Mayor is recommending a $457M budget with the majority of it going to utilities, streets and public safety. Huether says there is $457M in budgeted revenue from taxes and service charges.
But that revenue isn’t expected to rise over the next two years, so it’s time to hold back on spending.
“We need to ask ourselves something if we’re truly doing the appropriate thing for the tax payer and that is asking the tough questions: is this truly a city government role,” said Mayor Huether.
Huether says if the city council approves this budget and sticks to it then the city’s debt will be $2M less in 2022 than it was in 2010.
