Westerners Beat Lisbon 5-4 In Iowa State Tournament

DES MOINES, IA  —  Yesterday proved to be one of the best days of the summer baseball season with walkoff wins for Sioux Falls East in their Legion State A Tournament Wildcard game and Cole Anderson stealing home to deliver a State B Tournament win for Vermillion over Dell Rapids in Winner.

And in Des Moines another memorable moment was authored by Akron Westfield.

Despite committing seven errors and trailing Lisbon 3-0 early, the Westerners rallied to win their Iowa 1A State Quarterfinal game 5-4 in 11 innings on Kyle Johnson’s walkoff bases loaded single.  At 32-2 the Westerners advance to semifinal play on Thursday at 1:30 against Martensdale-Saint Mary’s in Des Moines.
