Two Killed in Crash Near Watertown: 16-year-old Female, 64-year-old Male

WATERTOWN, S.D. (AP) – The South Dakota Highway Patrol says two people died after a two-vehicle crash near Watertown.

The accident was reported about 4 a.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 81 about 10 miles south of Watertown.

Authorities say a 16-year-old girl driving a 2002 Toyota Corolla crossed the center line and collided with a 2003 Chrysler Concorde driven by a 64-year-old man.

The Concorde went into the west ditch and started on fire.

Both of them were pronounced dead at the scene.

The names of the two people are not being released pending notification of their families. They were the only people involved in the crash.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office, Codington County Sheriff’s Office, Hayti Fire Department, Castlewood Fire Department and Watertown Fire Department.
