Basement Sustains Heavy Damage From Early Morning House Fire

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A  basement bedroom sustained heavy flame damage from a fire that broke out early Saturday morning.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a report of a structure fire at 2405 S West Avenue. All residents had evacuated. According to the press release, the first arriving crew saw smoke when they arrived from the single family residence. The smoke and flames were coming from a basement window. Crews extinguished the fire within 15 minutes.

The smoke damage spread throughout both levels of the home. Fire Inspector Chuck Smith is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with four fire apparatus, three support apparatus, a command vehicle and 20 personnel.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would remind residents to test their smoke detectors monthly, check the detector’s expiration date, and have an evacuation plan in place for your family.
