Pierre’s Austin Hoss A Boss At State Golf

PIERRE, S.D. — Though Austin Hoss’ dad played college golf at North Dakota State, it’s not exactly like father like son when it comes to the links.
“He taught me a little bit but I primarily learned from other people and coaches because he kinda did things a lot different then I did. Buddies kinda talked me into it and just kind of got into that. Just started playing, thought it was a fun sport and just kept with it.” Hoss says.
Starting in the sixth grade, Austin proved a quick learner at Hillsview Golf Course in Pierre.
“Just learned from coaches. Coaches just helped me with my grip and stuff and I kind of taught myself a little bit from there.” Austin says.
Making it ironic that his final high school meet would be the Double A Championship on his home course.
“I put a lot of pressure on myself because I knew that I could perform well here. So I knew that I could get up to four or five under so I knew I had a pretty good chance.” Hoss says.
And making it fitting that’d he win the championship with a AA meet record 137 over two rounds.
“It feels a little bit better than I expected because I just didn’t think it would be that close sometimes. I thought maybe either I’d play really well or I just wouldn’t play well, but I just played consistent and well so it was fun!” Austin says.
