South Dakota Secretary Of Education To Retire In December After Six Years
PIERRE, S.D. – Governor Dennis Daugaard announced that Secretary of Education Melody Schopp is retiring in December.
Schopp oversaw the department throughout the “Gear up” scandal which centered around a multi-million dollar embezzlement scheme and a murder-suicide investigation into the Platte family. She also helped with improving teacher pay in South Dakota through a half-cent sales tax hike.
Schopp has served as Secretary of Education since 2011.
Her last day will be on December 15th.
