Irene-Wakonda Making a Statement with Successful Season
IRENE, S.D. — It’s the week that athletes dream about and prepare tirelessly for in hopes of achieving their playoff dreams.
South Dakota high school football playoffs kick off tomorrow, and the boys of 9-Man Irene-Wakonda are looking to make a statement on their already successful season.
The Eagles posted 375 offensive points this regular season and tallied only one loss.
Head Coach Brent Mutchelknaus credits his talented quarterback Trey King and variety of wide receivers plus their ability to play on both ends of the field.
“Even though we lost to Canistota Freeman we were down 20-8 and came back and ended up losing that in seven seconds, so we’ve been in every game and the players feel confident that they can play on both sides of the football and be in there at the end of the game,” says Mutchelknaus.
