Several Businesses in Minnehaha County Cited for Selling Alcohol to Minors
Sioux Falls, S.D. – Authorities say they’re disappointed in the number of businesses that failed alcohol compliance checks Thursday night in Minnehaha County.
The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s office conducted compliance checks at 49 businesses, seven of which were in violation. In the checks, underage customers try to buy alcohol with their valid, but underage, ID’s. Eight establishments failed the county’s last check in July.
Authorities say these latest results prove more education is needed for area businesses and employees. A failed compliance check means a $500 fine for a business, plus citations and fines for the clerk who sold the alcohol. Repeat offenders could see their liquor license limited by the city or state.
