Coats for All celebrates 30 years of Keeping the Community Warm
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – As winter approaches, KDLT and the Salvation Army are celebrating 30 years of keeping the community warm.
As of Tuesday morning, 144 people from 49 different families now have coats thanks to our partnership with the Salvation Army, and that’s just from the past two days.
For 30 winters, people of all ages in need can get a winter coat of their own.
Major Tom Riggs says he and his wife love the look on a child’s face when they have a new coat of their own, possibly for the first time in their life.
“They come in kind of like ‘eh I don’t want to be here’ but they leave with a smile on their face,” said Riggs. “And the smile radiates from the inside out. A little boy yesterday gave me a hug, gave my wife a hug. Wow, that was totally unexpected, but such a neat feeling.”
Coats for All is also giving away jackets, scarves, gloves, and hats.
The Salvation Army is located on 800 North Cliff Avenue in Sioux Falls.
