800 Dogs to Compete at the Sioux Empire Dog Show

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Some of the fiercest competitors on four legs are in Sioux Falls this weekend.

The Sioux Empire Kennel Club fall show started today at the fairgrounds. Nearly 800 dogs from all over the country are competing.

Dogs and their owners try to score the most points in obedience and rally trials. They hope to qualify for other shows around the country such as the Westminster Dog Show.

Organizers say there’s something for even the youngest and most casual fans.

“It’s a family oriented sport, hobby. Kids like it. Everybody seems to like the dogs. We all like to be able to see the dogs,” says Bill Burggraff of Sioux Empire Kennel Club.

The Sioux Empire Kennel Club has hosted dog shows since 1964. Show hours Saturday and Sunday are 8 a-m to 6 p-m.
