Rapid City Banner Project to Honor Veterans

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) – A Rapid City man is recognizing local servicemen and women by organizing a banner project with the goal of putting dozens of colorful banners featuring veterans throughout town.

The Rapid City Journal reports that Bill Casper served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963. He says the concept of the Veteran’s Honor Banner Project isn’t his idea, but he wants it to gain popularity in Rapid City.

Casper says his goal is to place as many banners honoring veterans on downtown banner hangers in November. He says he’d have banners featuring 18 World War II veterans flying downtown next month thanks to the support of Main Street Square coordinators.

Casper hopes the project will eventually recognize those who served in Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
