K-9 Max Retires After 7 Years With Sioux Falls Police
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A four-legged crime fighter in Sioux Falls is calling it a career.
The police department threw a retirement celebration today for Max who is retiring after seven years on the force. Max began his career with Sioux Falls police in May 2010. Max is credited with helping the department with several different types of drug seizures and tens of thousands of dollars in drug related money.
After his retirement, Max will live with his former handler, Officer Grant Van Voorst. Grant says going to work just won’t be the same without his partner, “what I’m going to miss most about working with max is just him not being there every day. He’s been there for years, every single day I go to work, he’s been there, and now he’s not. That’s going to be difficult.”
The K-9 program began in Sioux Falls in 1998. Since then, 15 service dogs have come through the department.
