21st Annual Dakota Masterworks Art Show In Sioux Falls
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – An art exhibit in Sioux Falls is celebrating the talents of some of South Dakota’s older residents today.
The 21st annual Dakota Masterworks Art Show showcased more than 140 pieces by state residents between the ages of 60 and 100 years old. Hosted by the South Dakota Health Care Association, organizers say the goal of the event is to promote positive aging.
They say the stories behind each piece are part of what makes this exhibit special.
“You can visit this and see that the artists themselves who may be struggling with Parkinson disease and has the tremors so badly but yet when they put music with their art, they’re able to calm those nerves and take away those tremors and do beautiful art work,” said Luann Severson with the South Dakota Health Care Association.
Organizers say the project first drew about 50 submissions 21 years ago and has grown to 150 to 200 entries each year.
