Britton-Hecla wins OT Thriller over Corsica/Stickney

VERMILLION…In the 3rd and final 9-man championship game Thursday at the Dakotadome in Vermillion, the Braves of Britton-Hecla fell behind early 16-0 to Corsica/Stickney as Cordell Menning scored a pair of first quarter TD’s for the Jaguars. But Tayon Hawkins had a big night rushing for 148 yards and 3 scores helped to send the game to overtime tied at 36. Hawkins scored for the Braves and tacked on the 2-point conversion. The Jaguars fumbled near the goal line and Britton-Hecla recovered to preserve the 44-36 win for their second ever state title. Menning finished with 119 yards on the ground for Corsica/Stickney which suffered it’s first loss of the year.
