Sioux Falls Man Arrested For Sexual Contact With Child
SIOUX FALLS – A 75-year-old Sioux Falls man is behind bars on charges of sexual contact with a child under 16, stemming from a 2012 incident.
The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office arrested David Ross Hirsch Thursday afternoon.
Court documents say the incident happened sometime between June and September 2012 at an in-home daycare run by Hirsch and his wife. The documents say a 9-year-old girl who lived in the neighborhood visited Hirsch in his workshop. It goes on to describe an incident where Hirsch put his hand down the girl’s pants and touched her private areas.
The incident came to light earlier this month when the girl, now in middle school, spoke to a school counselor about molestation. She told a resource officer that she decided to talk about the event after seeing recent media attention focused on sexual abuse disclosures.
Sam Clemens of the Sioux Falls Police Department says in an overwhelming number of child sexual abuse cases, the suspect is someone the child knows and not a stranger.
“So that’s one of the things that makes it a little more, I guess alarming,” said Clemens. “Parents know when a stranger’s around their kids to maybe kind of watch out from them. Sometimes they let their guard down around family and friends.”
Clemens encourages parents to talk openly with their children.
“Let them know what good touches are, what bad touches are,” said Clemens. “Let them know what’s appropriate and what’s not appropriate and if anybody touches them in areas where they’re not supposed to that they need to notify their parents right away.”
Hirsch is being held in the Minnehaha County jail on $50,000 cash bond for two counts of sexual contact with a child under 16.
