The Trained Medication Aide is the resident’s caregiver during his/her scheduled work period. To fulfill this caregiver role, the TMA performs tasks delegated by his/her immediate supervisor, the nurse, the client and family. These tasks may include, but are not limited to meeting the patient’s activities of daily living needs, meal preparation needs, emotional and spiritual support needs, medication compliance needs, and laundry. The TMA will maintain the functioning during his/her scheduled work period. Any concerns will be reported to his/her immediate supervisor, the on-call RN, and/or the Administrator.
The TMA is responsible for maintenance of the environment during his/her scheduled shift. The TMA utilizes cost effective measures to deliver quality care. The TMA complies with the SCMC philosophy and has knowledge of and utilizes appropriate age-related patient care protocols relating to the physical and psychological needs of adult and geriatric patients.
Nursing staff are expected to know and will be held accountable for following infection prevention and control policies.
When students are providing patient care, treatment, and/or services as a part of their training, any/all employees may be asked to supervise the students.
High school graduate or high school equivalency diploma required. Satisfactorily completes the medication training course. Satisfactorily completes a written competency test and performance test. Satisfactorily completes yearly competency testing and maintains a record of continuing education credit for each year.
