Broadway
Goes Greenby KDLT News 25 November 2008 Mayor Michael Bloomberg was joined Tuesday by green characters from Broadway, like Elphaba from "Wicked" and Frank from "Young Frankenstein," to launch New York City's "Broadway Goes Green" initiative. The aim of the campaign is to reduce Broadway's carbon footprint, which is a measure of greenhouse gases emitted by human activity. Ten theaters already have replaced some 10,000 bulbs with more energy-efficient ones. And the rest of Broadway's theaters have vowed to make the switch within the next 12 months. The initiative is part of the mayor's PlanNYC goal to reduce the city's carbon footprint 30 percent by 2030. |
