DWU #4 in Preseason Poll

  (Sioux City, Iowa) –   The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) held their twelve annual football media day on Wednesday, August 3, at the Holiday Inn Downtown in Sioux City, Iowa.  The day featured comments from all ten of the league’s football coaches in preparation for the 2011 season. 
  One of the highlights of the day is the release of the preseason coaches’ poll.  Morningside is preseason pick to win the GPAC championship.  The Mustangs totaled 79 points and seven (7) first place votes.  Northwestern was picked second with 74 points and the final three (3) first place votes.  Midland was picked third with 65.  Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

  A new GPAC Champion will be crowned in 2011 with Sioux Falls now officially moved over NCAA Division II.  The Cougars won the last nine GPAC regular season titles and were the 2010 NAIA National Runner-Up after losing to Carroll College in the NAIA National Championship Game last December in Rome, Georgia.  Sioux Falls, and Morningside advanced into the NAIA Championship Series last fall. 
  The 2011 GPAC football season kicks off on Saturday, August 27, with Midland hosting Dakota State and Concordia playing at Benedictine in non-conference play.  The GPAC schedule will consist of nine games with week one (September 3) a bye week (except Doane vs. Briar Cliff).
