Endres Does it All for DWU

Bookmark and Share

Josh Endres, our Taco Johns Athlete of the Week, can do a little bit of everything on the offensive side of the football. Just look at the way his college career at Dakota Wesleyan has gone.

"My freshman year I came in and they kind of threw me all over, my sophomore year, and junior year they really stuck me in at running back." Endres said.

It's looking like that was a good move on the part of the coaching staff.

"I think Josh is one of the best backs in the conference," Wide Reciever Nate Ovenden said, "And not only does he run the ball, but he can catch the ball and he blocks, he's unselfish."

It's the way the junior runs that catches the most attention though.

"One of the biggest specialties about him is the way he can move in open space," Quarterback Jon Bane said, "But if you get in front of him, he's gonna tote the rock right over you."

Through seven games this season, Endres has 12 touchdowns, eight of them coming on the ground and four on receptions, putting him near the top of the all-time list for DWU career scoring. Pretty impressive for a guy who made the jump from the 9-man game at Emery-Ethan, to the 11-man college game. But he brings more to his team than just points and blocks though, he brings character.

"He'd be one of those kids, if you wanted to have a son or have someone mary your daughter he'd be the guy," Head Coach Brad Pole said, "I mean he's just a humble guy who works hard and competes his socks off."

Humble might be an understatement.

"I wouldn't say I'm the most athletic guy," Endres said, "I just kind of read my blocks and do what I can I guess."

One thing is certain, the Tigers know just how lucky they are to have a player that can do just about everything.

"You can't really explain a Josh Endres," Bane said, "He's one of those that comes around every now and then and we're lucky to have him."
